How did you get started doing makeup and/or hair?
I have always loved art (especially fashion and image design) and weddings since I was young and am lucky to have a keen eye for what looks good on others. My friends always get compliments on the clothes and accessories that I help pick for them.
So after 10 years in the corporate world, I left my job to pursue a more meaningful career in the beauty space focused on what I love the most–bridal beauty.
What are some tips for doing makeup for Asian brides?
Asians have different facial features and beauty standards depending on their background. Understanding the client’s facial features and personal preferences are key.
What do you think is the most impactful part of the makeup routine?
Skin! Beautiful skin is the first thing people notice when they look at you. It’s the part of makeup that not only makes you look good but FEEL good all day.
What is the most popular bridal makeup styl for Asian brides?
A natural look with flawless, non-cakey skin that emphasizes the eyes and uses light contouring.
What are some trends you love? What are some trends you are not a fan of?
I love a natural look that doesn’t alter the bride’s natural features and using skin makeup that matches their natural skin tone with subtle glam faux lashes, and highlights/contour.
I'm not a fan of super pale foundation (like 3 shades lighter!) and an over-done dewiness that looks oily in photographs. I'm also not a big fan of using tape to create double eyelids because that will change the person’s face.
Any makeup tips when wearing a red cheongsam dress?
Choose a red lip color and texture that compliments your skin tone and a neutral color eyeshadow. Different color reds can vary on a person so the same red that looks good on your friend may look different on you.
How should a bride go about finding the right MUA for them?
Take a look at the artist’s portfolio and make sure you see a clear and consistent style that you like across the board.
What do you recommend an Asian bride tell their makeup artist to get the right look for their big day?
Artists are visual learners! Gather sample photos or set up a Pinterest board with makeup styles to show your MUA what you like and dislike. Communicate with your artist and don’t be shy!
What are some tips for how to choose the right hairstyle for a bride?
Choose a hairstyle based on your wedding dress style, personal comfort, hair texture, and the way it frames your face. If you never put your hair up, you may not feel like yourself with an updo.
What are some hairstyles you recommend when wearing a cheongsam dress?
Cheongsam dresses have a lot of delicate embroidered designs and is a more formal attire. A simple elegant mid-height (the bottom of the bun should be aligned with the bottom of your earlobe) updo accessorized with small red/gold hairpieces or fresh flowers is a great choice.
For brides who feel more comfortable with their hair down, loose waves to one side is a beautiful option.

The 2 most popular hairstyle requests are a simple low bun (updo) and a half-up, half-down look with fresh floral designs or jeweled pins.
