This dress is named after Maxine Hong Kingston - award winning author and Professor Emerita at the University of California, Berkeley. Her works, “The Woman Warrior” and “China Men” have received several awards for her contributions to Chinese American literature.
This dress was everything I was hoping it would be and more! The team at EMD was so responsive from day 0 before I even purchased the gown and sent them an inquiry about custom color options. The dress was shipped at the exact time frame they said to expect, and they even sent a little update a few weeks beforehand to let me see how the progress was going! The dress fits beautifully and looks gorgeous - I am so excited to wear this at my wedding and I cannot thank the team at EMD more for their hard work in creating this gown.
The dress is gorgeous! There were some areas that needed adjustments, but my local seamstress was able to fix them. I’m excited to wear this for my tea ceremony.
This dress is beautiful to be in, I'm so excited to wear it on my big day. Shipping was lightning fast as I had expected it to get to me in Mar, but it came over a month early, enough time to get it altered to fit perfectly!
Couldn’t have found anyone better to order qipao’s from.
And they have a responsive customer service team
When I got engaged and was thinking about wedding dresses, I knew I wanted to get a dress that highlighted both my Taiwanese background and my American upbringing and was concerned I wouldn’t be able to find a dress that captured what I wanted...until I found East Meets Dress. I was able to attend their popup in San Francisco earlier this year so it really helped with figuring out which dress I wanted.
I ended up getting the Maxine dress and asked if they could make a custom removable tulle overskirt (similar to the Mindy train) so I could have two wedding looks. They were receptive to doing the customization and listed concerns I didn’t think of with this customization (they hadn’t done anything like this before, the different materials may look weird together, etc.), showing they really cared about customer satisfaction and the quality of their work. I trusted that they would be able to achieve my vision and they did not disappoint! I received update photos as they were finishing up the skirt and it looked so beautiful and cohesive I actually asked for photos of the dress without the skirt to double-check it was indeed detachable.
The dress and skirt, long with other accessories I purchased from EMD arrived in a nicely packaged box. The dress is a little tight (which I chalk up to quarantine weight gain) but is otherwise perfect.
We were tired of browsing sketchy sites with no customer support so we started EMD.
